Rent Arrears

Your rent is due weekly. If you pay monthly, payment must be in advance.

It is your responsibility to ensure you do not fall behind with your rent. If you are having difficulty making payments, you must contact your Housing Services Officer immediately, for advice. If there is a genuine reason for non-payment he or she will discuss any special arrangements needed to clear the arrears.

We will take firm action against tenants who are repeatedly in arrears or who do not pay their rent on time.

If necessary, we will take legal action to seek a Possession Order in the County Court. The court will decide whether to grant a Possession Order.

A Possession Order is where the court will state a date that your tenancy will end and when you must leave the property.

If you require any further information about how to make payments and what to do if you get behind with your rent payments, you should contact the Housing Services Team without delay.

Advice and information regarding Court action can be obtained from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau.
