What is retirement housing?

Retirement housing is a group of unfurnished flats and bungalows specifically designed or adapted for the needs of people who need support to enable independent living.

South Northants HomesĀ gives a level of support, which is tailored to enable tenants to live a fully independent life, while ensuring peace of mind for them and their families. Retirement housing should not be confused with residential or nursing homes.

SNH's retirement housing falls into two groups:

Retirement Schemes:
These are a group of properties close together, or in one building. A scheme manager is available during normal working hours and will make contact with residents according to their agreed individual support plans (Monday-Friday). The communal facilities are available for all residents to use, including those who live in the wider community. There are a wide range of social activities held at the schemes, and residents are encouraged to form committees and take an active interest in the management of their scheme.

Retirement housing in the community
These are both individual and groups of properties, usually bungalows, which have the services of a visiting support officer who will visit according to the agreed individual support plan. Our residents who live in the community are encouraged to join in with all activities and opportunities within SNH. In order to maximise participation for all of our residents, SNH will endeavour to give assistance with any transport needs.
