Press release
Tuesday 23 June 2009LYRIX Academy comes to Towcester!
Young people in Towcester had the chance to give their opinions on living in the town and show off their DJ and MC skills – thanks to a LYRIX Academy evening at the Vision Café in Towcester.
The event, which occurred last Friday, was organised by local social housing providers South Northants Homes and Aragon Housing Association, in partnership with Northampton Voluntary Youth Action, Youth Action Team, Northamptonshire Police and Vision Cafe. It gave young people the opportunity to speak up, particularly about crime and graffiti issues in the area. A barbeque ensured everyone was well fed, and there was plenty of information available for young people, particularly about volunteering. Football training and other activities were also set up, ensuring there was something for everyone.
A highlight of the event was the resident LYRIX Academy DJ, Danny Kiteley, who is also a young volunteer. He provided music and demonstrated how to use the DJ equipment, giving attendees the opportunity to have a go. Some of the young people showcased their MC skills, which proved particularly popular.
Becky Pavey, SNH Community Development Manager said:
“The LYRIX Academy event was organised to give young people in Towcester area a platform to voice their opinions, as well as providing a fun, entertaining evening. It went down really well with the young people, and we hope to do another one in the future.”
