SNH rolls out a new winter works programme

Northamptonshire-based housing association, South Northants Homes (SNH), has implemented a winter grounds maintenance programme. The intention is to achieve a high visual impact and instil a sense of pride among customers and the wider community.

Work includes edging, pruning, spraying and, where applicable, planting, hedging and tree work. The planned work will continue through the winter, while the grounds maintenance team are not busy with the grass cutting schedule. Two new members will shortly be appointed to the gardening team to help deliver this service to a very high standard. SNH is also investing in new equipment and machinery to deliver these services more effectively.

SNH has also compiled a database of areas within the district that require attention, but which can be deferred until the cutting season has ended and the new gardening team in place. The targeted areas include, garage access roads and forecourts, overgrown areas and hedges in communal areas, tidying up trees that require trimming back and a weed killing programme. SNH also plans to undertake all the gardening works for empty dwellings prior to re-letting, implement the assisted gardening scheme and provide a comprehensive service to the sheltered schemes. These services include tending to the gardens and communal areas and undertaking the weeding, planting and border work.

Doug Grace, Head of Property Services for South Northants Homes, said:

“Primarily we plan to tackle the areas that have been neglected over time, ensuring they are attractive and presentable. These areas can then be maintained efficiently, providing a good foundation to build on for the future.”
