Older Persons Housing

What is Older Persons Housing?

Older persons housing is a group of unfurnished flats and bungalows specifically designed or adapted for the needs of older people or people with disabilities.

SNH's Older Persons Housing provides accommodation for older tenants and those with disabilities. SNH gives a level of support, which is tailored to enable tenants to live a fully independent life, while ensuring peace of mind for them and their families. Older Persons Housing should not be confused with residential or nursing homes.

The Association’s Older Persons Housing falls into two groups:

1. Older Persons Housing – sheltered:
Dwellings which are grouped close together, or in one building. A scheme manager is available during normal working hours and will make contact with tenants daily (Monday-Friday) communal facilities are available for tenants' use.

2. Older Persons Housing – dispersed with a community warden:
These are both individual and groups of dwellings, usually bungalows, which have the services of a visiting community warden who calls to each property on a regular basis.
