What is Community Development?
“Community Development is about building active and sustainable communities based on social justice and mutual respect. It is about changing power structures to remove the barriers that prevent people from participating in the issues that affect their lives. Community Development Workers support individuals, groups and organisations in this process on the basis of certain values and commitments."

What will the Team do?
The Community Development Team will spend a lot of their time out in the Community engaging with local residents, to gain a real understanding of the needs and wants of the local people and what can be done to support existing groups and organisations.
Who is involved?
The whole community can be involved in Community Development It gives a real chance for local people of any age or background to come together to raise important issues and priorities, to try and help communities come together and have a real sense of purpose and ownership of where you live.
There are many ways for local people to come together:
- The formation of Resident’s and Tenant’s groups;
- Setting up new Customer Forums;
- Community Activity days;
- Coffee mornings;
- Charity events;
- The formation of Voluntary and Community Action groups.
Why not invite the Community Development Team for a Tea and Chat? You supply the tea, we will supply the cakes!
What experience or skills do you need?
The great thing about getting involved is that you do not need any specific skills or related experience, all you really need is to be positive, willing and passionate in trying to make a difference in your Community.
The Community Development Team can offer key support and even training to those people who wish to be a part of or create a group.
